Reading regularly, eating healthy, doing your homework right after getting home, working out 4 times a week, and more. These are all habits that people often want to work towards. Still, if you've ever tried to build a habit, you know that it's not easy. Doing it requires a lot of work and time, which gets some people discouraged. Regardless, building good habits that benefit you is possible. Read the following post to learn how.

How to Build a Habit

  1. As stated above, habit building isn't a walk in the park. That's why, if you want your new habit to stick, you need to go at it little by little. Going at a slower pace makes that process more sustainable, and you less likely to give up on it.
  2. The most important part of habit building is practicing. After all, if you want something to become a habit, you need to get to a place where you get an urge to do it. To that end, work on it every day for about two months.
  3. It's likely that your motivation will start to diminish. For those cases, you just need to keep going. Realize that what seems difficult now, will become a breeze later on if you only keep at it a little bit longer.
  4. Finally, for those times in which you really feel discouraged, create a system of incentives. For example, if you work on your habit for two weeks uninterrupted, go shopping or have a treat you enjoy.
